| MONDAY, AUGUST 23, 2010 | | The Fog On The Moors Is All Mine! | Hi folks!
Just got back from a very foggy Tavistock... and I made sure that I didn't stray from the path or go into the Slaughtered Lamb for a late nightcap! So here I am with my lovely warm cup of cocoa and my typing finger all ready to embark on another literary masterpiece!
The show tonight at the Wharf was (I hope) enjoyed by all. Those of us up on stage certainly had a ball and those of you I spoke to agreed it was much enjoyed! I must say a big thank you to those who did brave the moorland mists to be with us... it really wasn't a night to be driving about. I have to admit I was a wee bit worried that the weather would affect the number of people coming along but I was very pleasantly surprised to see a brilliant turnout. Well done!!
The band would also like to say how happy we were that Clare Robinson at the Plymouth Evening Herald was able to squeeze in her Mercedes article on the day before the gig. So a large pat on the back and thanks to her!
Not sure how many of you managed to catch up with Dave the bass and I when we did an interview on Gordon Spark's morning show on BBC Radio Devon last Thursday but for those who missed it do not fear because we're going to put it up on the website.
The Mercedes album!!!!.. I thought you'd never ask!! What can I say... we are really over the moon with how it turned out. Malc and Dave worked incredibly hard on the project and really burnt the midnight oil... in fact they sent me the coffee bill!! It sounds... er... bloody brilliant!! A lot of people picked up their copies at the gig but you can of course order yours through the website or you can pick one up from me at one of my Total Stranger gigs if you get desperate! It's been a long time coming but I think you'll agree it's been worth the wait!
That's it!... time for bed.
Night night. K.

| | MONDAY, JULY 19, 2010 | | Summer Holidays.......! | Hi Chaps (and Chapettes)
Are you ready for it? DIg those trenches! Man those barricades! Break out the valium! AARGHH! It can't be! I don't believe it! Not again, not already. It's..........wait for it...........the school holidays!!!!
This time it's..............THE BIG ONE! You know the one. That's it. The one that makes you beg to be certified and whisked off to that quiet place up in the hills where the walls are all soft and springy and they make you wear that jacket that ties at the back and is really hard to take off. Although I nearly managed to do it last time I was there.
Ok. So how long are the little sweethearts off this time? How long? You can't be serious. That's longer than you get for murder isn't it? Wait a minute. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, I've just looked out of the window and.......guess what.......yep...it's raining. You really are screwed now. I mean you can't even send them out to play with the traffic. Never mind. It will soon be Xmas. Hang on. Don't they have another holiday then?
Cheer up! In the middle of all that mayhem there lies a spark of sanity and release. You guessed it......... a Mercedes gig. Up there in sunny Tavistock on Saturday 21st August. So dump the brats somewhere safe (Beirut) and join us for a fun-filled evening!
So, in the meantime, I'll see you all up there on the funny farm where every day is a holiday and they let you have a barbeque whenever you like. If you know what I mean, isn't that right matron?
"Of course it is my dear, now it's time for your dinner. Here's your straw. There's a good boy!"
Can we play with the petrol and matches after dinner, matron?....... can we?........ can we?
"Maybe later, we'll see."
Ha ha. Hee hee.

| | MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2010 | | Friends, Romans and Plymouthians! | Friends, Romans and Plymouthians (and anybody else who may be interested!) time again for my (fairly) regular putting of pen to paper. Well it's actually finger to keyboard if you want to be specific but you know what I mean.
Firstly a big thank you to those brave souls who sailed over the stormy seas to join us in Torpoint. Sadly Moses was over in Jo'burg watching the footie so there was no parting of the waves to help our intrepid explorers across the waters but I am glad to say that all survived the journey!
There's been a few adjustments to the gig diary so be sure to check this out to avoid disappointment and the next show will be at The Wharf on the 21st of August, let's hope the sun is still shining as brightly then!
Crikey! I almost forgot!
THE MERCEDES CD LAUNCH WILL BE AT THE WHARF ON AUG 21st!!!!
I've ordered mine already! Rumour has it that Simon Cowell is, as we speak, making space in his cd rack for his (signed) copy.
I always knew he would do something right eventually.
Take care. K. | | Jun 21, 2010 @ 7:14 PM | 2 comment(s) |
| | SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2010 | | Good Morning Campers! | Good morning campers,
Time again for more words of wisdom from yours truly! Well I can maybe manage the words, but the wisdom part is definitely up for debate.
First things first.... we really enjoyed the recent Wharf gig. Thanks to all of you who came along especially the Plymouth crew who braved the journey from the big city! Talking to people afterwards it seemed as though a good time was had by all. I know quite a few couldn't get there for one reason or another but hopefully you can make the next one. Which leads me rather smoothly into a well timed plug for the forthcoming blast at the Harbour Lights in Torpoint on Sat 5th June. So dust off those passports, jump on that ferry and we'll see you all over there! I will have tickets at my Total Stranger gigs (see below) but no worries if you just want to turn up on the night. Admission is £8 either way.
Wed 12th The Spinning Wheel (Paignton)
Thurs 13th Cider Press (The Barbican)
Fri 14th Ford Inn (Ford)
Sat 15th Raffles (Mutley)
SPRING BREAK
Sat 29th Burrator Hotel (Dousland)
Fri 4th June The Minerva (Barbican)
Sorry about the advertising for my own gigs (I promise not to make a habit of it) but at least you know where you can pick up tickets if you feel the need. On a different note they say "ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out". Well it is still pretty chilly. Guess that means I'll be wearing my thermal undies until June!
Keep warm. K. | | May 09, 2010 @ 12:04 PM | 2 comment(s) |
| | TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 2010 | | Keith Wilford Discovers The Atom! |
Hi gang,
Since I was knee high to a Morris Minor hub cap I have been obsessed by cars. Well maybe obsessed is a bit of an exaggeration but I would say to call me a 'petrolhead' would not be too wide of the mark. Mind you I have no idea at all as to what makes them stop and go or anything like that but they do hold a special place in my heart.
The reason I'm telling you all of this is because my son Ryan has recently acquired an Ariel Atom. That probably means absolutely nothing to most of you sensible people out there and I can totally understand that but to those of us who will always be giddy little schoolboys and still prefer Roy of the Rovers to Wayne of the United... this is just for you!
Very briefly, Ariel (the company) started life many moons ago building motorcycles and I guess faded away under the Japanese onslaught. Then a few years ago they emerged as a very small car maker. The first time I actually saw an Atom was on Top Gear when Jeremy Clarkson (and the Stig) put the machine through its paces. I'd never seen anything like it before. In a nutshell it just looks like some lunatics escaped from the asylum with some welding gear and hid out in some backstreet lockup! The result is a load of metal tubes with an engine strapped to the back just in front of two bucket seats. They make it road-legal by throwing on some lights!
Anyway, the laddo comes to visit us a couple of weeks ago in this little beastie and invites me to sit in it and participate in a quiet jaunt around our quaint little country lanes, yes honestly officer! 300 brake horsepower (that's about ten Morris Minors) with a supercharger... in something that weighs about the same as a tube of toothpaste! I think you get the picture. Now I've been on motorbikes, been in fast cars, roller coasters, helter skelters, you name it. I admit that I haven't ever thrown myself of a ten-storey building but let me tell you that nothing comes close to this. Words really do fail me. When that go pedal gets planted and the
supercharger screams in your ear like some wailing banshee, the whole world suddenly moves backwards and this invisible rugby team pushes you through the back of the seat! I want one so at least that's my Xmas present sorted. If I leave a picture of one lying around maybe the missus will get the hint!
Anyway, back to reality.
Don't miss the band at the Wharf in Tavistock this Saturday (17th). The last time we were there it was a blast........just like my trip in the Atom!
Bye bye. K.
