Playing drums is a huge passion for Dave, one which all began on a toy tin drum, which was often hidden away under the stairs at his Grannies house, that was until one day, it simply disappeared! Far from dampening any enthusiasm, this strengthened his resolve and just about anything that could be hit, tapped or whacked… was! Dave’s parents relented and he got his first ’proper’ kit at the age of eleven - a set that was originally owned by the drummer of Johhny Kidd and the Pirates.

It was in Plymouth that very young Dave played with a number of bands, honing those skills to hopefully one day turn ‘pro’. He started off playing in bands as early as 15 with the ’EXIT’, ‘GBH’, Grand Hotel...

Then Dave realised his drumming dream and turned professional in 1980, where he learnt the hard way how to be a ‘true pro’ - playing to tough audiences in the working man clubs of the North East with a band called ‘Cobweb Lace’ and then alternating between summer seasons (around the UK) and cruises sailing from England, Denmark, Sweden and Holland (Amsterdam, to be precise - less said about that the better!). After releasing a chart single in 1981 with a band called ‘Mojo’, the band went on ‘stand-by’ for Top of the Pops, even though the single reached No. 68, it quickly dropped out of the charts… fame was short-lived.

Returning ‘home’ to Plymouth, Dave joined ‘Juke’ (Vince Lee on guitar), for a number of years and played with ex-Kinks tour manager Colin Boyd in band called the Limpin’ Bros. Dave joined up with Mercedes for two great years for their 1998 line-up and then played with In Ya Pocket. Currently Dave plays with Free and Co, a tribute to Free and Bad Company.

Dave also is also a writer and has written for Drummer and Music Mart magazines and is currently writing drum reviews for Performing Musician magazine….
