Dave picked up a guitar at twelve years old and within months was playing seven nights a week in a piano, drums and two guitar-type group in his parent’s pub, The Golden Butterfly in Torquay. Moving across to bass was a natural progression and when that band finished he formed a number of organ, bass, drum trios around the Torbay area. Dave’s first ‘pro’ job in music was with April Union with full-time residencies at The Imperial Hotel and finally The Rainbow Lounge Torquay, at the latter backing international cabaret seven nights a week.

Approached by Paintbox, Dave auditioned and became part of the three-piece band that was soon to evolve into Mercedes, one of the leading lights in the West Country. Throughout the 80's they performed powerful original material touring with great success across the UK, Europe and America recording frequently and making numerous appearances on TV and radio.

With the demise of Mercedes Dave teamed up with Keith forming Total Strangers an explosive two-piece with cutting edge technology and powerful PA where he progressed to playing five, then six-string bass. Based in the South West this formula proved to be a highly successful move resulting in more than 3,500 gigs and several well-received albums over 11 years.

2001 saw another change in Dave’s career joining Status Clone, a band that would become one of the leading Status Quo Tributes in the country touring extensively throughout the last eight years in the UK as well as numerous trips to Spain, Holland and the Channel Islands.

Dave is thrilled to be back playing his beloved Yamaha six-string bass beginning another chapter with Mercedes.
